It sounds great clean, and sounds amazing overdriven. There is a passive filter circuit that pulls out some middle while leaving the hum-cancelling intact.” These options are so great if you want less mid-range from the humbuckers and prefer more of a single-coil sound. It is very versatile with its 5 way pickup switcher, which was explained to me by Tom himself this way: “The 2, 4 and pulled middle sounds are not split, they are what we call ‘kicked back’. I’ve never found myself playing it and wanting a tone that it couldn’t produce. It really fits my style and what I want to achieve when I play. It feels like the guitar that I’ve always wanted but didn’t know it. One of my favorite things about the Hollow T is that it feels like me. It cuts through the mix the way you would expect a Tele to, yet it can get silky smooth when you need it. It gives me plenty of crisp, clear, chimey high end, without being harsh. I don’t have to do that with the Hollow T. One of my personal problems with the Atom was that I was always wanting more high end clarity and presence, but had to use pedals to achieve that. The fact that it’s chambered gives it a very earthy, woody tone, without sacrificing versatility. The Anderson Hollow T (which had 2 humbuckers) has so much character and bite too it.

I’ve always loved the sass that you get from a Tele style guitar. It’s still light and doesn’t grow tired on your shoulders, but now the headstock doesn’t dive when I let go of it and it no longer feels fragile or “toyish”. I ended up having Atkinson Music install about a pound of lead underneath the volume and tone knobs.

Jeff approached me and said he would be willing to part with the Hollow T, and after playing it against my Fender Tele and my Atom, I decided to purchase it. I’ve had the Atom for a few years, and have always really enjoyed Anderson guitars. What works for me may not work for all but I love Anderson Guitarworks! I will always be an endorser for them not just because of the guitars but the people as well.I picked up a Tom Anderson Hollow T a few months ago from Jeff Troxel. I have zero hesitation doing that moving forward as I have found the specs that fit my hands perfectly. I have custom spec'ed and purchased them all sight unseen. I currently own 5 TAGs (just sold one unfortunately) and I love and play them all often. I'm not saying there isn't going to be a guitar that will fit your needs but he works tirelessly to make sure every guitar they build is consistent with the standards they hold themselves to. The one thing I can 100% confidently say is that Tom's biggest driving force is consistency. They only build about 700 guitars a year and, like someone said above, each of those guitars has an order attached to it.

His buddies at Mesa Boogie (Doug West, etc) visited him and helped him find a better way to do things without having to touch every part of the build process. He was so involved in every part of the process that he was burning out. I remember back around 2007/2008 Tom was considering scaling way back and possibly shutting down the shop. Tom, Roy and family love what they do and it shows. Nicest bunch of guys you'll ever work with. I ordered my first custom spec'ed guitar from them back in late 2009. Does anyone have the same experience with Anderson guitars? Any experience with the custom shop? Usually I don't like to order custom because you never know if its going to be a dud, or not as great and consistent as the guitar you might already have from a manufacturer. So now i'm thinking about just ordering a custom so I can get exactly what I want. Point of this rant is the two Andersons I've played, 25 years apart from each other in build date, both had the same amazing playability, resonance, and just got along with me so well.

I pick it up and this one plays just as well! I look at the serial and this ones from 1993. Then I was at a different store last night and see another used Anderson strat hanging there. So I had to buy it, unfortunately I have to wait until this weekend to pick it up because of the 30 day hold. Hard to describe but it was just super playable and I could really dig in on it. So I picked up a Tom Anderson strat for the first time at GC last weekend.
